A ~ for America
America the Beautiful |
'How lucky I am to have something that
makes saying goodbye so hard.'
~ A.A. Milne (Winnie the Pooh)
America the Beautiful
by Katherine Lee Bates (1913
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet,
Whose stern impassion’d stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America! God mend thine ev’ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev’ry gain divine!
O Beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam,
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

ReplyDeleteHave a nice day, Greetings Daphne, ABCW team
really beautiful and thoughtful post Carol.
ReplyDeleteI always love the line from sea to shining sea. As we are only about 200 miles wide our shining seas are a whole lot closer!
ReplyDeleteHi Carol, just read your comment to me. You come in my email as a "no reply" so I'll give you the info here. the place where I usually link my tags to is Tag Tuesday:
ReplyDeletehttps://tagtuesday.blogspot.de/
They have a new theme every two weeks and it is for tags only although it can be a tag on a card or tag on a journal page. The Try It On Tueday blog: https://tuesdaytaggers.blogspot.de/ just happens to have "tags" as a theme right now but you could certainly make a tag for that too so long as you use the theme:) Maybe I'll see you at one of these places- or both:)
Beautifully captured!
ReplyDeleteNice start into the new round ! I have celebrated with the Americans the 4th of July in Ireland ! was fun !
ReplyDeleteYes! Be proud of your country. Have a beautiful day, Carol
ReplyDeletelove! nice photo of the sun coming through the clouds.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I only know the first verse. Lovely photo.
ReplyDeleteone of my favorite photos (of my own that I took) is the one of the stone on top of Pike's Peak with that song engraved on a plaque ... it is said that the lady wrote the words after being up there. And no matter how I worry about our country, it IS beautiful and I am proud of that. This is a perfect post.
